Week 14 Belly Photo

The Belly is getting bigger and you are growing!!  You still love baked potatoes, and mayo - yummy!

Big Brother is Already Very Protective

Jet your big brother is already protective of your belongings.  We laid out your diapers, clothes, toys, shoes that we have already received and he didn't want to leave them.  He smelt them pretty well but then just laid down.  We were a little surprised he didn't chew up the shoes, because that is his favorite hobby when he gets upset.  He will make a great big brother, and is looking forward to playing with you very soon!

Father's Day 2012

Your first Father's Day!!  Baby Weldon gave his day a wonderful card along with diapers!!  Dad was so happy and proud, but most of all he is excited to meet you!

Week 14: I can dance if I want to!

Fetal development in pregnancy week 14

Now that we're in tri-two, are you ready to rock-n-roll?! Okay, okay, maybe just a little waltz will suffice, seeing as you're in a family way and looking like you need a nap.
At about 3.5 inches long, your peach-sized baby's little body and limber limbs are coordinated enough for loads of complicated motions.
In fact, it's very likely that they're in the middle of some fancy break-dance moves right now!
Unfortunately, you're not going to feel their fancy moves until sometime after week 18 because they're still too small to trigger sensations in your uterus. Their movements are recognizable on an ultrasound, though.
Speaking of which - you could schedule a gender ultrasound with your health care provider, if you're interested in knowing whether you're carrying a boy or a girl break-dancer. Or you can keep it a surprise till their birthday!
FYI: Weeks 16 - 18 are the first dates where the presence or lack of a penis and testicles can be clearly detected via ultrasound.
Your baby is also starting to develop the ability to move their eyes this week, although their eyelids remain fused shut for another three months.
Cute development of the week: their little hands can grasp at things and your wee babe can already suck their thumb!

New Cravings!!

Today marked a day of new cravings!!

This morning all I could think about at the gym was toast with peanut butter and blueberries on top - not that strange but it was yummy!!  The next one was this afternoon as the 2nd wave of hunger hit me.  I went for hot oatmeal and carrots.  The oatmeal made a perfect dip for the carrots - strange but yet yummy again.  I still cannot kick the mayo craving, yet again had it with my chicken breast and rice.
Little Weldon I wonder what will be your favorite food?  Peanut butter runs in the family.....

Week 13: Farewell first trimester...

Buckle up folks, we're about to head into trimester two!
Your little womb tenant is getting bigger and smarter every day! Their skin is paper-thin and rather see-through, showing off all their shiny new functioning and still-developing organs.
Their sense of taste and smell are more developed and refined while their cozy amniotic sac continues to increase in size and mass and fill with more fluid.
As we embark on the second trimester, it's time for your manatee-to-alien-to-tiny-weird-human to evolve into monkey baby!
Little hairs, known as lanugo, will start to cover your baby's body this week, which will eventually be shed some time after birth.
Of all the trimesters, this one has been the most critical to ensuring your baby's development is on the right track.
If you've carefully adopted a healthy diet, continued to stay active, and made sure you're getting all the rest you need, you've got your little one set up for some spectacular growth and development in tri-two! Way to go, mama!

Congrats from family.

Little Weldon -
This email from my Aunt Marie and her family.  It touched my heart and some day will touch yours as you grow a family so I wanted to share because it does explain a future decision if we will find out if you are a boy or a girl?!?!!??

Congratulations Desiree and Matt!

Enjoy being pregnant! Eat whatever and whenever you want ( do not eat sushi, though)  You'll hear many birth stories, remedies for morning sickness, and pregnancy stories just smile and nod your head and say" really, how interesting."  However, please do not find out what it is before it comes out. I think it makes you push harder and it is the best surprise in the whole world to finally find out what was inside for 40 weeks. Plus, it makes people crazy!
Throughout all my pregnancies one day all of sudden my intuition told me what I was carrying. I would write it and where I was down and put it some place safe.  After the baby was born I would look for the piece of paper and every time my intuition was right. One time I was backing out of our driveway and it came to me that Kaitie was going to be a girl. I had even bought a calendar for the baby room and the name Kate was in one of the pictures in the calendar.  Ross, I was in the grocery store. Ella  I was at the park. Skyler in the swimming pool.  It just comes out of no where. I was not thinking about it at all. It was the craziest thing. So, if one day you are touching your tummy and all of sudden it comes to you write it down.  Now nod your head, smile, and say "really, how interesting!"

The best wishes for a safe, happy, and wonderful pregnancy. Please, eat lots of chocolate dark or milk supposedly it makes happy babies.

Marie and Family

Word is out!!!

Little Weldon this past weekend we were excited to share the news that you will be blessing our lives this winter with our close friends and family.  They are also very excited but the one person that was most excited to share the news was your Dad!!  Look how much fun he was having.....

Soon you will be learning this game.......but not for several years.

Graduation

You made it through three classes of mom's Masters Degree with her!!!  You even got to walk across your first stage, I know there will be more to come for you.  You will be such a smart cookie.

Tiredness!!!

We are in Week 12 and I thought we were in the home stretch until Monday came and I was extremely tired.  I think I was forced to fall asleep at my desk about four times today and about three times yesterday.  You must be growing at a fast pace because my body can't keep up!!  I think one of my co-workers caught my eyes closed but she won't say anything, shhh.

Week 12: Look ma, I'm a lollipop!

Despite being a super-dooper grower, your little Einstein’s body is still far behind the astonishing growth of their amazing brain. In other words, your baby is still a bobble-head, as their massive noggin' comprises 30% of their entire body mass!

Bobblehead aside, your little lollipop's neck is up to the challenge and straightening out quite nicely as can be seen by their little chin lifting off of the chest.
Your baby is also actively rehearsing “breathing” by inhaling and exhaling amniotic fluid (ew!) to prepare the lungs for future air respiration.
The big news: your little poop-n-pee factory is now up and running!
Don't worry, most of the liquid waste wends it way down to your bladder, just adding to your million-times-a-day rides on the porcelain pony.
The solid waste - aka their first baby poop is just starting to build up in their intestine (it's a super-slow build-up, since it's all derived from liquid blood) in preparation for that tarry black meconium newborn poop.
Along with all the lovely poop-n-pee talk, we thought you'd like to know that your baby now pees into their amniotic sac and then inhales it through their mouth and nose.
YUCK! Not to worry, their urine is completely sterile and harmless, no matter how gross it seems.

Week 11: What's that uterus-like smell?

Fetal development in pregnancy week 11

~length
1.6 in | 4 cm
~weight
0.25 oz | 7 g
Your wee baby is now comparable in size to a plum!
Go ahead... we'll wait while you run to the kitchen and hold one in your hand to marvel at the life form unfolding inside of you.
Your baby's favorite game right now is exploring their face and especially their mouth.
Not only does this game improve your child's newly acquired voluntary muscle coordination of their limbs, but it also starts hard-wiring their hand nerves for newly gained sensations as they're now able to experience in their hands, because their palms can now "feel"!
Extensive facial exploration also primes their facial nerves by setting the stage for a lifetime of subtle sensations from kissing to spitting!
Final interesting fetal developments for the week: their newly acquired swallow reflex, and the beginnings of a sense of smell, which when combined with their maturing taste buds, will provide your baby with their first experiences of taste and smell in the womb.
Yeah, we're also curious what wombs smell like. We'd like to think warm and homey, which just might be the smell of freshly baked cookies.
